Azimo Score

Azimo offers a basic foreign currency exchange and transfer service. Azimo could improve it’s score for personal services if it offered other solutions such as regular transfers, digital wallets, travel cards and account managers.

Business Benefits

Azimo provides basic international money transfer services for small to mid-sized businesses, sole traders and freelancers registered in the European Economic Area (EEA).

What Azimo for business offers

  • International money transfers.
  • Reduced exchange rate margins (hidden fee) for high value transfers.
  • Repeat payments.

International money transfers - Pay international suppliers, contractors, employees and partners using Spot Contracts.

Better rates for high value transfers - Get better than existing rates when transferring more than £1,000.

Repeat payments - Carry out repeat payments easily by using details from previous transfers.

What Azimo doesn’t do

  • Travel cards.
  • Business account managers.
  • Currency hedging tools.
  • Solutions for online sellers.
  • Accounting integration.
  • Unique multi-currency receiving accounts.
  • Digital wallets.

Azimo Score

Azimo doesn’t score as well for business. Azimo could improve its business service by offering clients risk management tools, accounting integration, multi-currency accounts and access to dedicated account managers.

Fees & Exchange Rates

Azimo fees

Azimo fees vary depending on where you and the recipient live, the payment method, the transfer method and the transfer amount.

  • Transfers to Azimo cash pick up locations are typically more expensive than bank account transfers.
  • Credit card payments attract higher fees than payments made via bank transfers.

Azimo exchange rates

Azimo applies markups on existing mid-market/real exchange rates, which can be up between 1.5% and 2.25% for some currencies.

Are there additional Azimo fees?

Azimo has additional fees with their money transfers. During testing for the Azimo review, iCompareFX observed a €12 currency equivalent fee on top of the exchange rate margin.

Fee-free transfers

Azimo currently offers two fee-free transfers for new personal customers, and five fee-free transfers for business customers. Exchange rate margins still apply.

Azimo Score

Non-transparent, non-negotiable and high margin exchange rate fees have resulted in Azimo's poor scoring for fees and exchange rates.

Ease of Use

What Azimo does well

Payment methods - Pay via bank transfers, debit cards or credit cards. Depending on where you live, you may also pay via SOFORT or iDEAL.

Multilingual website - Use the Azimo website in different European languages.

Azimo app - Use the Azimo app to get rate alerts, send money and track your transfers.

Signing up - Create a new account using either the Azimo app or website.

Where Azimo could improve

Transfer speed

Most Azimo transfers are supposed to be processed within one business day from the time Azimo receives customers' payments. However, a number of Azimo reviews on Trustpilot, Google Play Store and Apple App store complain about delayed transfers.

Transfer limits

Azimo transfer limits can vary based on the payment method, the destination country and the transfer method. For example, the maximum transfer amount when making debit or credit card payments stands at £12,000 / €13,500.

Phone transfers

You can not initiate transfers by speaking with a currency specialist over the phone.

Azimo Score

Azimo can work on improving its Ease of Use score by making sure it processes all transfers quickly, by increasing limits for card payments and by offering phone transfers.

Where Azimo could improve

Supported registration countries

As of now, Azimo accepts customers only from Europe. You can send money from 25 countries, which include the UK, countries in the Eurozone, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Switzerland and Poland.

Azimo customer service

Several Azimo Trustpilot reviews suggest that the company rates poorly when it comes to providing effective customer support.

Azimo Score

Azimo scores above average in this section. It can do even better by increasing its supported registration countries and improving the level of customer service it provides.

Trust & Transparency

What Azimo does well

Regulated - Azimo Ltd. is authorised by the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). Azimo B.V. is authorised by the De Nederlandsche Bank.

Azimo Trustpilot score - Azimo rates as Excellent on Trustpilot, getting a score of 9.2 out of 10 with over 40,000 reviews.

Where Azimo could improve

Transparency in exchange rates - Customers become aware of exchange rate margins that Azimo applies only if they carry out research on their own.

Better handling of complaints - Azimo can help build more trust among its customers by addressing their complaints effectively and in a timely manner. This will then reflect in the Trustpilot reviews written by its customers.

Azimo Score

Azimo can increase its Trust & Transparency score by making its exchange rates completely transparent. It can do this by adding a fixed and transparent markup.

Is Azimo safe?

Yes. Azimo is registered with the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and the De Nederlandsche Bank. However, some Azimo reviews on Trustpilot and other online platforms suggest that the company provides less-than-desirable customer service. Some reviews also mention delays in transfers.

Does Azimo work on weekends?

You can use Azimo to carry our transfers during the weekend, either through its website or app. However, you might be subject to a higher exchange rate markup when the forex markets are closed. Azimo provides customer support from Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm, UK time.
